Hoop Tricks Is Merging Into The Spinsterz!

Hoop Tricks Is Merging Into The Spinsterz!

A story of how Hoop Tricks was created, where it has been, and where it is going! The Spinsterz, which is my primary business, decided to use a little bit of its revenue and start a blog called Hoop Tricks. The blog was founded in 2009 as a place for hoopers to come to learn new tricks, read articles, and learn more about hooping than they may have ever needed to know! As I was writing and adding content to Hoop Tricks I continued to work hard on The Spinsterz as Hoop Tricks was not supporting itself financially. In 2012 I took a break from Hoop Tricks and diverted my energy from an online space, into a physical space. I wanted to connect more with my local community so I did a fundraiser and over the course of 30 days I raised $10,000 which funded the Bend Circus Center. Bend Circus Center is a training facility for kids and adults who want to learn and improve their circus skills, balance, self-confidence and fun factor! Bend Circus Center is still running and doing well, bringing a lot of joy to people lives in the Bend Oregon area. Once the circus center was on it’s feet and running smoothly I dove back into Hoop Tricks head first with the intention of growing it substantially. I did a site re-design, hired a bunch of dedicated writers that were passionate about hooping, began a very active and popular instagram feed and really put a lot of time, energy and money into it. Hoop Tricks, though it has a very active community does not...
Hoop Away That Extra Baby Weight!

Hoop Away That Extra Baby Weight!

Have you recently had a baby? You have been working out really hard and exercising, but there is that last little bit of fat around your tummy. No matter what you do it won’t go anywhere! Well, look no further. I have found a couple videos that will blast the fat and leave you feeling hoopy and happy! Enjoy! First things First EXERCISE!!!!   If you haven’t started some sort of workout routine than you need to! It can be anything! I have two little boys (3  and 1 years old) and it was difficult to get back in the swing of things. I was busy being a wife, new mom, and also going to school for Geology. I started going to Zumba (which I highly recommend). I was also doing a couple other routines (weights, hiking, exercising) however, I just couldn’t shake that last little bit of weight around my tummy. I’m not overweight- I just wanted to get toned back up, as I’m sure all of you do too! So get your booty up and moving! Extra bonus- when you exercise with your baby, they act as a weight and you get to spend time together! Now What? Go find your hoop silly! Any hoop, any size (the smaller the hoop the more you will be working your core). If you don’t have one, go to K-mart or the Dollar Store and buy one (for less than $5), drain out the beads or water and voila! You’re good to go! If it is a new hoop, make sure you’re comfortable with it; it will just make it...
Hoop Dance Warm Up Ideas with Videos

Hoop Dance Warm Up Ideas with Videos

Need some ideas for warming up before stretching and learning new hooping tricks?   Written Ideas: Run or briskly walk around the space Dance to a good song If able to waist hoop, do so while walking or slowly running around the space Jumping jacks   Video Ideas: Stretching Tips: No static stretching until after you’re done working out. Muscles must be very warm before doing them. What are static stretches? When your body is at rest and you stretch and hold the stretch for 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Dynamic active stretching is when you use momentum to stretch and don’t surpass your static stretching ability. Moves such as slow toe touches (without holding it), little circles and big circles with your arms, rotating hips side to side, or anything with movement without holding fall into this category.   I hope this helps, and happy hooping!...
3 Funky But Useful Tips for Hoopers

3 Funky But Useful Tips for Hoopers

Hula hooping is so much more than just a plastic circle that goes around your waist. There’s a lot of thought, practice, hard work, and dedication that goes into hoop dancing. However, I never knew this when I started hooping and had to find out the hard way. There are some great tips I learned and taught myself along the way and I hope they help you too. They are a bit weird, if you ask me. Especially to someone who is new. So here ya go… three tips that are super useful for hoopers, but also a bit funky! Round n Round You know you’re teaching a new person to hoop when every other word out of your mouth is “spin.” This is a fundamental of hooping. If you don’t spin, you won’t get that trick down, and there will likely be a slew of hoop-to-face action, which is never fun. Almost all on-body moves require spinning. Spin spin spin. Think you “just can’t do a trick?” You’re probably not spinning. Can’t get the vortex down for the life of you? You’re probably not spinning. There’s no way your hoop ever stays on your knees! You’re not spinning are you? There are lots of off-body moves that you should not spin for, including but not limited to isolations, chest rolls and anti-spins. Yes, being a bit dizzy is part of the game.    Go with it I love this one. It’s great, you essentially make your mess ups a totally sick new move, go along with it. It’s hard to explain, but instead of saying “Ah, I messed...

This move is such an integral part of hooping, and it’s super pretty. This is the first move I learned, and it’s the first thing I teach those who want to learn to hoop. Vortex A video posted by Nina – Hooper And Expolorer (@that_hooplife) on Oct 9, 2015 at 10:14am PDT KEY: Spin. I can’t stress this enough. Spinning is the key to nailing this trick instead of nailing your ear (which really hurts, by the way). Don’t forget to spin until completion.   Isolation Let’s start off with just the basic isolation. There’s a slew of others to follow! Mix this up with the vortex so you’re not just studying one thing. Isolations are a wicked illusion where it looks like the hoop doesn’t move, but you do. Basic isolation A video posted by Nina – Hooper And Expolorer (@that_hooplife) on Oct 9, 2015 at 10:12am PDT KEY: Mirror. Doing this trick in the mirror will work wonders for you. Why Hoopers Should Use YouTube More Often

Why Hoopers Should Use YouTube More Often

You may have noticed that YouTube hooping videos aren’t getting the same attention as they used to. Yeah, we know the ads can get irritating and being taken away to another screen can take a few seconds longer than we like. However, the benefits outweigh the disadvantages! Why should hoopers spend more time with YouTube? 1. You can search for videos you want to watch. You can then sort the results by upload date, type, length, video quality, view count, popularity and more. 2.  You can get email notifications when your favorite hoopers upload new videos if you subscribe to their channel. 3. You can use way more songs without getting in trouble for using them. I recommend using the YouTube audio library and their list of ad supported music. 4.  You can monetize your videos to earn cash if your videos get lots of views and traffic! Typically, it takes around several hundred thousand views to be profitable, but hey you can always try. However, you can only monetize videos that don’t use most music. Tutorials are an excellent way to make some money this way, as long as you don’t use copyright music in it. Consult the audio library list in #3 to see which songs you can use and monetize. 5.  You can slow the videos down or speed them up while you watch them! Turning videos into instant slow mo tutorials! Here’s how: Article on how to adjust YouTube video speed 6.  You can choose your level of video quality (low quality all the way to Ultra HD). This allows you to watch videos in low...
