In this video she is starting the trick Hooping with her Left hand above her head in a clock-wise direction. Make sure your Hoop is in a flat plane as it is spinning over your head. You will be using your RIGHT hand to “catch” the Hoop as it comes around your back. Your RIGHT hand should be to your side, just at your waist. As you begin the trick, lower your Hula Hoop and aim it to go Behind your Back. You’ll feel your elbow sicking out, that is where it’s supposed to be. Now your Hoop is (or should be) behind your back; you will then gently toss your Hoop from your LEFT to your RIGHT hand, keeping your Right hand by your waist is helpful. Just remember that your Left hand should come around your back as much as possible to be able to “deliver” the Hoop to your Right hand. Once you pass it you can spin the Hoop out in front of you, like in the video. Or put the Hoop back on your body and raise it up over your head and begin the trick again.
Learn how to POP a small, light Hoop, up, off your shoulder after having been Hooping around your neck, and your shoulder. You should already know how to spin a Hoop around your neck and then duck in with your shoulder. Straighten out your arm (whatever shoulder you ducked in with, use THAT arm, straightened out) and grasp your Hoop with your hand, it looks like she’s holding it lightly with her fingers, then she bends the Hoop, by squeezing it, and then letting it go, POP into the air!
An easy way to learn to Hoop on your foot is to lay down on your back, put your leg up(in this video she is using her Left foot to start and actually HOOPING on her Right foot.) Put the Hula Hoop on the top of your Left foot and next put your Right foot INSIDE your Hoop. Hold onto your Hoop with both hands and use your hands to position your hoop where it needs to be.Your hands will guide your Hoop first, then your Left foot will start the trick. Both of your feet are going to work together to get the Hoop going in the counter-clock wise direction. You will “push off” with the Left foot and will begin Hooping on your Right Foot! You’ll see that most of the movement is in your foot, and ankle, not really using your leg. You will need to be able to hold your leg up for a bit though! Sneak your other foot up your leg and switch feet. Going back and forth a few times is the way to get really good at this!
The other 2 ways to Learn how to Hoop on your Foot is to have the Hoop spinning on your hand, lay on your back(or begin on your side) and “steal” the Hula Hoop from your hand and put it on your Foot.
Learning to do the Booty Bump is an easy and fun Hoop trick.
You start off with the Hula Hoop going around your body in the counter-clockwise direction. After you get into a comfortable rhythm start to bend over at the waist. Your body is now angled vertically with the hoop. Start bouncing, use your knees, and legs to make your Booty Bounce! You should be bent over, with your back flat. If you are short, you may want to try a slightly smaller Hoop (as doing this move often gets your hoop very close to the ground). The motion of your belly, knees and legs in time with your Hoop allows the Booty Bump to happen easily!
Learn how to continuously spin your Hula Hoop and use the inertia to duck your shoulder in.
This shows you starting to spin your Hoop on your left shoulder, continuously spinning and turning in the clock-wise direction. Spin a few times, allowing the hoop to move and duck your head in through the hula hoop, by leaning your head to the right.
Learn how to start doing a knee stall or reversal. Start hooping in “orbit” around the body. Lift your knee up to your waist and as your hoop comes around to your front hook your knee on hoop and force hoop in opposite direction. Use your left hand and your right knee. The momentum from your knees forces it back into the opposite direction for you to be able to go left to right continuously. To go in the other direction, start with your right hand and your left knee.
Start by hula hooping around your body using your hands to carry the hoop in an orbit around your body. Then you are going to place the hoop on your ankle. If you are hooping counter clockwise, then place the hoop on your left ankle, if you are hooping clockwise, use your right ankle. Once the hoop is hooked on your ankle, sweep your leg around behind your body and over to its opposite side. As the hoop come over to the opposite side of your body and before it hits your back, grab the hoop off your ankle and resume the body orbit.
How to raise your hula hoop from your waist above your head.
First start hooping and if you are hooping CW, then use your Left hand and stick it behind your back with your palm facing out. As soon as you feel the hoop roll over your hand, bring your arm into the air, leading with your elbow and try to bring your arm straight up. If you are getting all twisted and your arm is ending up on your right side, then try turning your body the same direction the hoop is going as you lift. Practice practice practice.
